Disciples of Jesus experience the power and work of God in and through their lives through the Person of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is God, a Person of the Trinity. He is also known as the Advocate, Helper, Spirit of Truth and Spirit of Christ (John 14-16; Romans 8). He is God’s greatest gift offered to all disciples (Luke 11:13; Acts 2:38; 1 Corinthians 6:19). Holy Spirit is the living Presence of God in a disciple’s life (John 14:7). He applies the saving work of Christ to a believer (Ephesians 1:13). Holy Spirit empowered the earthly ministry of Jesus, beginning at His baptism (Matthew 3:16), and offers to fill Jesus’ disciples and empower them for ministry and good works (Acts 1:8, 4:31; 1 Corinthians 12-14). He inspired the Bible as the written Word of God for training disciples (1 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16). Holy Spirit is deeply invested in the heart, soul and body of the disciple, forming the Character of Christ, healing wounds (physical and emotional), cleansing sin, and setting them free from spiritual blocks and strongholds (Psalm 51, 139, Titus 3:5). Holy Spirit demonstrates God’s love for every disciple: praying, protecting, and guiding them in purpose filled lives (Romans 8:26; Ephesians 6:10-18; Galatians 5:22-23).
